Our Water for Future Generations
Water is what makes Michigan great. Yet Michigan’s water use laws need to the strengthened so that large corporations, like mining and water bottling companies, aren’t allowed to treat our Great Lakes as their own, even sending Michigan's waters to other states and places. Irresponsible water users already have dried up wells, ponds, and wetlands across the state, leaving Michigan citizens and natural resources to pay the price for unregulated use of our state's water.
A broad coalition of lakes defenders have proposed strong new measures to keep our water from being shipped out of the Great Lakes and protect Michigan's lakes, rivers and streams from the impacts of water withdrawals.
Known as the "Great Lakes, Great Michigan" platform, the proposal calls for comprehensive water use laws that will prevent adverse impacts on our waterways and natural resources, making Michigan a leader in water conservation. See our platform for more information.
Please contact your legislators and urge them to support strong and comprehensive water use laws.
